Q: What is senior living? How does it differ from assisted or independent living?
A: “Senior living” encompasses a range of options for older adults, including “independent living” and “assisted living.” Independent living is for older people looking to connect with peers and enjoy an active lifestyle. Assisted living is for people who need help with certain daily tasks, like showering, dressing and managing medication regimens. Both are available at Atria communities, where the level of care is personalized to meet your needs. Learn more here.
Q: How do I know if Atria is right for me or my loved one?
A: Atria gives older people the opportunity to live with independence and spend more time doing the things they enjoy—all with the peace of mind that someone is always there to help. Each community is a convivial place designed especially for older people who might need a little help with daily tasks but do not require nursing care.
If you’re looking for an independent or assisted living lifestyle, Atria may be the place for you. In addition, many of our communities offer Life Guidance®, a secure and caring environment for people with memory impairment, and Atria Retreat, a short-term stay for trial periods, vacation or hospital recovery. Q: What options does Atria offer for people with Alzheimer’s disease?
A: Many of our Atria communities offer separate, secure Life Guidance® neighborhoods for people with Alzheimer’s disease or other memory impairments. We provide 24-hour care in a specialized environment, while maintaining the comforts of home.
A highly trained, accommodating staff provides our residents with personalized attention, nutritious meals and stimulating activities tailored to each person’s abilities and interests. Familiar, structured routines ensure that our residents are comfortable throughout their day. Surrounded by familiar faces and places, they enjoy a warm and inviting home. Learn more here.
Q: How much does it cost to live at Atria?
A: At Atria, care is tailored to individual needs and residents pay only for the services they require (in addition to basic rent rates). At our assisted living communities, each resident’s rate is determined by a thorough assessment performed by a licensed nurse. The rate can be adjusted as a resident’s needs change, and rates vary by community. To learn more about our pricing structure, speak with an Atria Executive Director in the local community you’re considering.
Q: Is senior living tax-deductible?
A: Tax deductions can be a useful way to balance the cost of senior living. You may be eligible for certain deductions on your federal tax return, depending on the type of services and the level of care you require. Learn more here or speak with your financial advisor.
Q: Do new residents need to pay a security deposit when moving into an Atria community?
A: In most of our communities, no security deposit is required. The only up-front fee required by most of our communities is a new resident services fee. Because this fee varies by community and by state, check with the community of your choice for more information.
Q: Can I bring my own furnishings to my apartment?
A: Absolutely. This is your home and you should have all the comforts and furnishings you enjoy. Atria residents enjoy decorating their own apartments and entrances to add their own personality to their homes.
Q: Can I bring my pet to Atria?
A: We know your pet is an important member of the family. Most Atria communities allow residents to have pets in their apartment for a nominal, one-time fee. Check with the community you are considering for more information.
Q: Do Atria communities allow smoking?
A: We are sensitive to the health needs of all of our residents, so all Atria communities are non-smoking environments. Some of our communities offer dedicated areas for residents and their guests to smoke.
Q: Will I have access to medical care?
A: Each Atria community employs a full-time, licensed nurse as a Resident Services Director who oversees all aspects of care, including assessments, medication assistance and communication with family and physicians. In addition, medical centers and hospitals are easily accessible from all our communities.
Q: Is there an emergency call system?
A: All Atria apartments are equipped with emergency call systems.
Q: What options are there for activities?
A: When older people come to Atria, they step into a vibrant community of peers. Our activities program, Engage Life®, is based on an extensive review of residents’ hobbies and interests. Every activity is designed to touch on at least one of eight specific components to keep your mind, body and soul active. Your Engage Life Director will spend time getting to know you and exploring your interests. We’re certain you’ll find something that’s right for you among book discussions, gardening, exercise classes, arts and crafts, bingo, card games and much more. Residents often tell us that since they moved to Atria, they’re busier than ever! Learn more here.
