Nintendo® Wii™ puts fun into exercise at Atria Crossgate
Who says TV is for couch potatoes? Just ask residents at
Atria Crossgate senior living community in Albany, New York, and they’ll tell you a new meaning of the phrase.
Albany's WTEN TV recently visited Atria Crossgate to cover the Wii™ story.

Since the ever-popular Nintendo® Wii™ video game console was donated to Atria Crossgate by two local kids, the community has implemented it into exercise classes. The activity tracks a user’s motions and translates them to the video game that they’re playing such as bowling, boxing, golf or tennis.
The outcome: Fun and exercise for all.
“The Nintendo Wii is not only for the young, but the young at heart,” said Tammy Childrose, Community Sales Director at Atria Crossgate. “Those who participate are not only staying physically active, but mentally active as well. The Wii stimulates their mind by incorporating a significant level of hand and eye coordination.”
Bob Artus, an Atria Crossgate resident since June 2004, has played golf for many years. He said “you get a lot of arm exercise here,” referring to the Wii™ Sports Golf game.
And Bob Milford, who’s been a resident at Atria Crossgate since August 2007, enjoys playing the tennis and boxing games on the Wii™. “I can’t wait to challenge others in a game of tennis,” said Milford. “It’s fun. It’s a lot of fun.”
"It's great for activities, it's great for the minds (and) mobility," said Childrose.
So next time you sit down and turn on the TV, put down those chips and get in the game.
